DO YOU KNOW SANDSTORMS

A blurred line between earth and sky
The sun dimmed by yellow haze
Visibility dropped to zero
A curtain of yellow sand

Sand-laden winds
The air felt thick and heavy Gritty breath
Windows and doors whistled and groaned

A dust storm is a disastrous weather phenomenon in which strong winds lift large amounts of sand and dust from the ground into the air, leading to murky atmospheric conditions and a significant reduction in visibility. It predominantly occurs in arid and semi-arid regions, such as Northwest China and Mongolia. The formation of a dust storm requires three essential conditions: persistent and powerful winds, dry and loose sand or dust sources, and an unstable atmospheric state. Dust storms severely deteriorate air quality, pose risks to human health, disrupt transportation systems, and accelerate land desertification. Effective prevention and control of dust storms require comprehensive measures, including afforestation, grassland restoration, returning farmland to forests or grasslands, and establishing protective forest belts, all aimed at improving the ecological environment and reducing dust sources.
